Dear Parents & Guardians,
Welcome to Bishop McVinney School! We look forward to a year of fun and learning with your child! Together we can make this a wonderful, positive experience. We are eager to get off to a great start and are very excited about all the learning and fun that will happen this year! There is a great deal of information to pass on to you at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, we will be able to answer many of your questions in this letter. Please feel free to talk to us about any questions or concerns you may have.
Please note the following:
Our day
Our school day begins at 8am…Bishop McVinney provides before and after school care. The teachers start at 8. The majority of our learning, playing and socializing happens in the morning so it is important for your child to arrive close to 8 am to start the day. Breakfast is also available from 8-9am.
Clothing
Please make sure you have your child’s name on all extra clothes they bring to school. This includes jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts. They will need a complete set of clothes, including socks, to keep at school in case of an accident, spill or water play. Please send clothing in a large Ziploc bag, with their name on the outside of the bag. If your child does need to be changed, please make sure their extra clothing gets replaced by their next school day, we do not have extra clothing for children in the class. As the seasons change check your child’s cubby to make sure their extra clothes are weather appropriate. Please make sure you write your child’s name or initials on all of their belongings i.e. Backpack, lunch bag, jackets and water bottles
Snack
We will have snack after nap/rest time. We ask that you supply a small healthy snack for your child. No soda, candy or glass bottles please.
School Work and Notices
In the hallway your child will have a mailbox whether you will find your child’s work or notices. Please check their mailbox every day.
Nap/Rest
We will have nap everyday for about 2 hours this time includes getting ready for nap. We do our very best to provide a quiet peaceful community during this time so they can rest or sleep. Please send in a small blanket for your child to snuggle with! Stuffed animals, pillows or pillow pets are not allowed
Toys from home
Please keep them at home! We have plenty of materials and toys at school to have lots of fun! There will be show and tell opportunities for your child to bring a toy from home.
Birthdays
Birthdays are very special and important when you are turning 4 & 5 years old. If your child has a birthday during the school year, you are welcome to bring in a treat for the celebration. The celebration will take place right after lunch so we ask that you drop off the cupcakes in the morning or before lunch time. Please check for any allergies the students may have. If your child is having a party outside of school we ask that you not hand out invitations to the kids please put them in the invited children’s mailboxes at school, unless everyone is invited.
Supplies
It would be greatly appreciated, if each family contributes to the class in some way. Some supplies that we use daily: tissues, paper towels, disinfecting Wipes, hand sanitizer & glue sticks Thank you for your support!
Communication
We would love to talk to all parents about your student’s progress, however some mornings during drop off get really busy so it might be best to call us. The best time to reach us by phone is between 1:30-2:30
We are excited to work with your child and help them explore what preschool is all about!
