OUR MISSION
We are a safe, nurturing and respectful community.
We will reach our full potential by growing in mind, body and spirit in accordance with the Catholic faith.
We will live out the Gospel through Jesus Christ.
We are peacemakers.
OUR STORY
In the early 1970’s, urban redevelopment dispersed many families to the suburbs leading to a decline in enrollment at 4 parish schools (Assumption, St. Charles, St. Michael’s and the Cathedral SS Peter & Paul). A study authorized by the Bishop indicated that if Catholic Education were to survive in the South Providence area, it required a regional school with support from the Diocese of Providence. Bishop McVinney School was founded in 1973 as a result of an enthusiastic collaboration of principals, faculty and parents who succeeded admirably in saving Catholic Education for the children of South Providence and the surrounding urban area. Bishop McVinney School continues to serve the Catholic educational needs of a diverse urban population with a proud, inspirational and somewhat miraculous history.
