Why Bishop McVinney School?
As a teacher at Bishop McVinney School, I see firsthand every day the reasons why this school is necessary and wonderful. The reasons are countless and monumental: this school really lives out Jesus’s message of love and selflessness for others. Every day we bring the light of Christ to one of the darkest neighborhoods in our state, and allow the opportunity for safety, guidance, support and love amid poverty and tragedy. Despite the often damaging or detrimental effects of the circumstances of our neighborhood, being a student at our school allows our children to come to an environment each day that is safe, peace-driven, faith-guided, and hopeful in so many ways. Like Jesus would have asked of us, we who work with your children come each day to work on their behalf, no matter how tired, frustrated or worn out we may be. It is this environment of family. community, love and support which encourages these children from often troubled neighborhoods to feel special and strong in their education, and empowered to make something of themselves. We give of ourselves endlessly each day: mentally, physically, monetarily, emotionally and with the hope that we will simply be what your children need.
Come visit us and I assure you that it will be confirmed that we represent a place of dignity for our families and children. We are the mission of Jesus; we are the work of God in reality. We are the source of empowerment and guidance toward a life of meaning, purpose, and contribution. We take the malleable minds of these children and we mold them into self-empowered, respectful and responsible human beings as much as we can each day. For those of our students who have good memories of a chance at getting out of poverty, or of following a dream rather than a paycheck, I can guarantee you it had something to do with Bishop McVinney School.
Please visit our school and see for yourself how dearly our children and families hold this community in their hearts. I ask that you notice the true work of Jesus that we, the faculty and staff, humbly do each day, without significant monetary gain, and without any stature gained in society. We quietly report to our duties each day, despite the incredible stresses we witness and experience because we are simply humble servants of the Lord. We are indeed humble servants who hold the Lord’s people in our hearts. We are not only an institution of education; we are a beacon of hope and a place of refuge.
With sincerity and great hope for your interest in becoming a member of our family.
