Over the last 40 years, Barbara Papitto has contributed time, talent, and treasure to organizations and causes where she believes she can make a difference. In 2008, Barbara and her husband, Ralph, founded the Read to Succeed program to help children improve their reading skills and earn valuable scholarship funds. The program’s mission is to improve literacy for underserved elementary and middle school students in Providence by promoting a love for reading and addressing summer learning loss. Bishop McVinney School students have benefitted from Read to Succeed since its founding. Upon successful completion of the summer reading assignments, a BMV student is annually awarded a $1,000 college-bound scholarship for six consecutive years. Over the course of its fifteen year history, Read to Succeed has funded more than $2.2 million in scholarships to Providence students.
